The Outreach Commission coordinates a number of ministry projects July 1, 2005 In 2004, St. Timothy's applied for a United Thank Offering (UTO) grant to open a Gleaner's Food Pantry Satellite. The grant was recently approved to the tune of $10,200, which will be used to renovate the stage area of Crane Hall (the Parish Hall), and purchase refrigeration and freezer equipment. UTO request that the grant be spent within 12 months, so you will see some of this renovation taking place very soon in hopes that by sometime this fall or early winter, we can have the pantry open once a week to serve the needy in our community. The first place to start is to thank Sheryl Otter and Deacon Ron Goldfarb for the research about the tremendous need for such a program here on the Southside and for writing the grant for the funding. the Vestry sees this as a positive program that can only help us become a more visible and active part of our community. Pictures of Pantry Progress Food Pantry: Are you saving paper grocery sacks for our Food Pantry? Please ask for paper bags when you grocery shop and bring the bags to church so we will not have to purchase any sacks to use once the Pantry is open. Also, we still need you to continue donate canned and boxed goods for our existing pantry. When you shop this week, pick up an extra box of macaroni & cheese or a can of tuna or a can of soup and bring it to church next Sunday. AND MORE: Many other forms of outreach abound in our life. Some of these include the Bishop's & Rector's Discretionary Funds, the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief, the Episcopal Fund for Human Need, the CROP Walk, AA, Al-Anon, and the Southside Health Care Center, We are growing in this area of our life and are seeing it more as a focus of out life. Our church is also involved in community outreach by collecting eyeglasses and cases, Heinz baby food labels, Campbell soup labels, blank videotapes, and hot chocolate for various organizations.
