Minutes of the Vestry of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church Sept. 18, 2008 Present: The Rev. Kirsteen Wilkinson, Vicar; Senior warden Chris Large; Junior warden Sheryl Otter; Steve Polston; Liz Manning; Kitty Herndon; Elaine Braverman; John Kurek; Devotion: Sheryl read Hymn No. 647 (The King’s Highway) as the devotion; Elaine will choose next meeting’s devotional hymn. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. Approval of minutes of the Aug. 21, 2008 meeting: Sheryl motioned approval of the minutes; Elaine seconded; the motion was approved by acclamation. Monthly financial reports and review: Not all receipts were available for the Jamboree financials, but $1,200 is expected in revenue. Steve motioned approval of the report; Elaine seconded the motion; the motion was approved by acclamation. Property Commission: The diocese’s $10,000 grant to help pay for our roof repairs was received last week. Chris said that removal of timbers from the old bridge across the ditch will occur soon. Chris said that: a new hallway phone has been installed; water in women’s toilet tanks is running on. John volunteered to install faucets if somebody else will pick out the equipment. Sheryl reported that shelves in the food pantry need end caps so that volunteers don’t crack their heads on metal. Old Business: Kirsteen spoke about guidelines for the discretionary fund: person must live in the township; can only be helped twice a year; must show their unpaid-past due utility bill if they need help with a utility bill. Safe – tabled. Parish records – Kirsteen still pursuing records for baptisms. Mission Strategy report – Kirsteen completed the parish’s report for 2010; the 2009 amount in aid to the Diocese has never been established. Episcopal Life subscriptions list – our parish roster is up-to-date. New Business: Wedding guidelines were distributed for review (last guidelines published in 1985). Upcoming events: A. Global Missions meeting is September 20. Adult formation is September 21. UTO ingathering is September 21. Deanery meeting is September 22. Kirsteen will be out of the parish for a clergy ember day on September 25. The Malcolm Boyd video will be re-shown and we will have a pitch-in September 28. Blessing of the Animals is October 4 at 10 a.m. Diocesan Convention is October 24 – October 26 in Evansville. Extraneous: More than $1,600 has been given for memorial trees. Chris will hire Schneider’s Nursery to provide & plant the trees. The memorial service will be scheduled for sometime in November. On All Saints Day children may come dressed in costume; a necrology will be published and names of the deceased from this year will be read at the altar. Vestry member Jane Bostwick is in a play at Freemason Hall in October. Hunger Incorporated, another South side Food pantry, is celebrating 25 years. Food pantry report – not as many people came as usual during the previous opening. For the good of the cause: ‘Hymns for Professions’ which was provided by Ed Champa, was read by Kirsteen. John spoke about the Zoo fund-raiser Putting for Penguins, which will be held at the Southport Putt-Putt course on Sept. 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. Compline: The vestry prayed the office of Compline at approximately 8 p.m Adjournment: Adjournment was after Compline. |
