Minutes of the Bishop’s Committee

St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church

November 19, 2009

 

Present:

The Rev. Kirsteen Wilkinson, vicar; Ed Champa, senior warden; Sheryl Otter, junior warden; Tom Ware; John Prey; Kitty Herndon; Steve Polston; Michael Ewing, clerk
 

 Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 7:04 pm.

 

Devotion:

The meeting began with a devotion about not doing it all but rather getting everyone involved.

 

Approval of Minutes:

Kitty moved to accept the minutes from August. John seconded. Approved by voice vote.

 

Finances:

Finance Committee Report.

Chris Large will be new pledge clerk.

 

 

Property Commission:

A. Old Business
            i. No return call about the windows yet.
            ii. Air-conditioning units have been installed.
            iii. Painting is done.

B. New Business
            i. Pipe in Sexton’s closet is leaking through.

 

Rector’s Report:

A. Discretionary Fund has $320 in it
B. Pastoral Care
C. Prison Ministry was on Oct 22nd
D. Diocesan Events
            i. Attended convention.
            ii. Clericus
            iii. Commission on Ministry is at St. Timothy’s on December 5th
            iv. Clergy Advent Silent Retreat – Evening of Dec 6th to Noon Dec 7th

 

Old Business:

A. Committees
            i. Parish Life
                        a. Steve Bridgewater, Gilayne Lange, Tom Ware
                        b. Advent event December 20th: Hanging of the greens, Decorating
                                    cookies, followed by chili lunch
                        c. Cookie Exchange – December 16th (Wednesday night)

B. Several other churches have helped out with enough to bring the Sworh children to
                    their parents here in Indianapolis.

 

New Business:

A. Worship
            i. Thanksgiving Day at 10 am. Said service with communion
            ii. Advent - Prayer B. Magnificat in place of Gloria.
            iii. Christmas Eve – two services
                        Early service to focus on the children including St. Nicholas
                        Late service with lots of music and pageantry
                        Times to be determined later. Input needed.

B. Education

i. Advent Adult Faith Formation based on “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens
            ii. New nursery curriculum purchased, begins in Advent

C. Vestry Retreat at Waycross: Feb 26th – 28th

D. Annual meeting January 24th

 

For the Good of the Cause:

Bor Diocese has grown enough to split off part to form Twic East Diocese.

Brasilia Diocese is celebrating its 50th anniversary with the Cathedral there celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Lots of good mission work is going on.
